Client Overview

Pair Networks(pair.com) is a long-established web hosting and domain services provider. Years in the hosting industry had earned Pair genuine domain authority, but its organic search footprint didn't reflect that strength, leaning heavily on people who were already looking for the Pair brand by name.

The Initial Bottleneck

The Challenge

When we started, Pair's organic visibility was concentrated almost entirely on its own brand:

The demand was there; Pair simply wasn't positioned to capture it.

  • 26.7%of organic clicks came from just five branded keywords (Pair Networks, Pair hosting, pair.com, Pair, Pair com).
  • Over the prior year,65%of all organic traffic came from variations of "Pair."
  • In the six months before the engagement, branded searches fell 21% in impressions, 9% in clicks and 25% in CTR; non-branded searches fell 6% in impressions, 26% in clicks and 14% in CTR.
  • Yet the site already appeared over450% more oftenfor high-intent, non-branded queries like "shared hosting" and "Word Press hosting" than for its branded terms.

The Strategy

In April, we rewrote thetitle tagson17 of Pair's pillar pages. Because Pair already had strong domain authority in hosting, we could confidently target competitive, high-volume, non-branded keywords instead of brand terms users already knew. A few examples of the shift:

We applied the same thinking to meta descriptions, using the full character count and adding clear, benefit-led calls to action so unfamiliar searchers had a concrete reason to click.

  • Pair Networks(590 searches/mo) →Buy A Domain | Website Hosting | Custom Web Design(37,200/mo), exposure to ~36,610 more monthly searches.
  • Paired Up – Pair Networks(1,070/mo) →Website Design | Website Maintenance | Pair Networks(46,380/mo), ~45,310 more monthly searches.
  • Pair Site Builder – Pair Networks(590/mo) →Drag and Drop Website Builder | No Code Website Builder(2,180/mo), ~1,590 more monthly searches.

  • Non-branded searches saw a48% increase in organic visibility.
  • Five keywords: web hosting, website hosting, Word Press hosting, best Word Press hosting and hosting, drove the largest impression growth, adding roughly24,000 more views.

Why It Worked

The results came from matching how people actually search, not from more content or more spend:

  • We used authority Pair already had. Strong domain authority meant new, competitive title tags could rank quickly.
  • We targeted demand, not the brand. Branded titles were redundant for users who already knew Pair; descriptive, non-branded titles opened the door to far larger search volumes, the core of SEO for software companies.
  • We gave people a reason to click. Rewritten meta descriptions with clear CTAs lifted click-through, not just impressions.
